Commercial lighting

Commercial lighting and controls

Lighting that balances energy efficiency with comfort, using LED luminaires, zoning and smart controls.

Open-plan office lit by LED ceiling panels, with daylight from perimeter windows

The problem

The problem behind the problem

Lighting is one of the biggest energy loads in most commercial buildings, and it's often on when nobody needs it. Meeting rooms stay lit all day, perimeter zones ignore the daylight, and store rooms are left on overnight.

United Prompt Solutions designs commercial lighting that balances energy efficiency with workplace comfort. We survey occupancy patterns and daylight, then specify luminaires and controls that cut energy use without compromising visibility or wellbeing.

Commercial lighting controlsAn office section with a window on the left. Luminaires near the window are dimmed by daylight sensing, those over occupied desks are on, and the meeting room on the right is off because its presence sensor detects nobody. An emergency exit sign is shown above the door.35% daylightOn · occupiedOffNo one hereEXITZoned · presence detection · daylight dimming · DALI

Scope

What we do

  • 01

    Survey and design

Site surveys of occupancy and daylight, photometric models and energy estimates for different control options.

  • 02

    LED upgrades

LED luminaires with good colour rendering, suitable colour temperatures and glare control for screens and meeting tables.

  • 03

    Lighting controls

Zoned lighting, presence detection, daylight dimming, DALI scenes and scheduling to suit each tenancy.

  • 04

    BMS integration

Lighting controls linked to the building management system for central monitoring, sub-metering and fault reporting.

  • 05

    Emergency lighting

Emergency lighting planned, installed and tested to meet current UK regulations.

  • 06

    Commissioning and handover

Commissioning, occupant tuning and a handover report with clear instructions for ongoing operation.

How we work

How we approach it

  1. 01

    Look at what's really installed

Existing plant, controls, wiring, documentation and operating conditions, not just what the drawings say.

  2. 02

    Find the underlying cause

Trend data, field testing and cross-trade fault finding to separate symptoms from causes.

  3. 03

Recommend the smallest fix that works

Repair, recommissioning, programming, integration or a staged upgrade. Replacement only when it's justified.

  4. 04

    Deliver, verify and document

Changes tested against the original problem, with records the next person can follow.

FAQ

Common questions

Can't find what you're looking for? Contact our team.

How much energy can lighting controls save?

It depends on how the space is used. Presence detection in meeting rooms and low-use areas, and daylight dimming on perimeter zones, typically make the biggest difference. We model the options for your building before you commit.

Can you work on a phased retrofit or a tenancy change?

Yes. We prepare specification packs covering luminaires, control layout and commissioning, and phase the work to keep disruption low.

Are wireless lighting controls an option?

Yes. Wireless controls reduce cabling and suit spaces where tenants change often or leases are short.

Tell us what the building is doing, or isn't doing.

You don't need to know whether it's the BMS, the HVAC plant, the switchboard or the programming. Describe what you're seeing and we'll work out where to start.
