Fault finding

Electrical and controls fault finding

Fast diagnosis of electrical and automation faults, so the real cause is fixed and the building keeps running.

The problem

The problem behind the problem

Some faults keep coming back. The breaker is reset, the controller rebooted, the alarm cleared, and a week later it happens again. Each call-out treats the symptom and the cause is still there.

United Prompt Solutions uses proper diagnostic tools and a methodical approach to trace faults across electrical installations and building automation systems. We find the root cause, fix it and explain what happened.

Scope

What we do

  • 01

    Electrical fault diagnosis

Tracing faults through distribution boards, circuits, protective devices and wiring to the actual cause.

  • 02

    Automation and controls faults

Controllers, sensors, actuators, networks and field wiring checked against what the BMS reports.

  • 03

    Intermittent faults

Monitoring and logging to catch faults that only happen at certain times or under certain loads.

  • 04

    Root cause reporting

A clear explanation of what failed, why, and what will stop it happening again.

  • 05

    Repair and verification

The fix carried out and tested against the original problem, not just a reset.

How we work

How we approach it

  1. 01

    Look at what's really installed

Existing plant, controls, wiring, documentation and operating conditions, not just what the drawings say.

  2. 02

    Find the underlying cause

Trend data, field testing and cross-trade fault finding to separate symptoms from causes.

  3. 03

Recommend the smallest fix that works

Repair, recommissioning, programming, integration or a staged upgrade. Replacement only when it's justified.

  4. 04

    Deliver, verify and document

Changes tested against the original problem, with records the next person can follow.

FAQ

Common questions

Can't find what you're looking for? Contact our team.

How quickly can you attend?

Call us and we'll talk through the fault and agree a time to attend. For faults affecting critical areas we prioritise getting someone on site.

The fault might be electrical or it might be the BMS. Who should we call?

Us. We work across both, so we can follow the fault from the controller to the distribution board and back without handing it between contractors.

What if the fault can't be reproduced while you're on site?

We use trend logs, event history and temporary monitoring to capture intermittent faults when they happen, then act on the evidence.

Tell us what the building is doing, or isn't doing.

You don't need to know whether it's the BMS, the HVAC plant, the switchboard or the programming. Describe what you're seeing and we'll work out where to start.
